Hi! I'm Matt. I’m an actor as well as a photographer, so naturally I’ve been shooting with actors since I first picked up a camera. I started off by taking headshots as favours for friends and castmates, and I've made sure to keep that same community spirit as part of my work ever since.
I don't want people asking who took the photo when they see your headshot, I want them asking about the person in the photo. During the incredibly busy casting process, the first photo they see will likely be your only photo they look at. My job is to make sure you have the perfect photo for the role, every single time.
For headshots, all you need is a range of engaging and visually accurate photos which are specific to who you are as an actor. Strong, precise branding. It's that simple.
Staying true to my roots is how I'm able to make sure all my headshot shoots are a genuinely collaborative process. We'll have a conversation at the start of the shoot so I can get to know your background and your goals, and we'll use subtle shifts in thought, posing, styling and colours to create a range of photos which will help you achieve them.
The art of the close-up
Making sure that the technical elements and the performance elements of the photo work together to tell the same story is the key to a truly impactful headshot. We'll have a conversation at the start of the shoot where I can get to know your performance background and your goals, and we'll use our combined skillsets to create eye-catching images that will help you achieve them.
I’ll handle all the technical elements: Adjusting the lighting, backdrops and lens choices to compliment your face shape, hair style and skin tone and outfit choices and make sure we get a really good range of looks.
We’ll work together as a director and actor on the posing, rather than a photographer and model. I'll guide you through my intention-based posing process which allows us to create headshots that feel natural, spontaneous and alive.
Frequently asked questions
Your shoot will take place in my studio at Thames-Side Studios in South-East London. Once you've booked you'll receive detailed directions, a google pin link and a site map for where to meet me on the day.
Yes! The site my Studio is located at has three free car parks, which are marked on the map you'll receive in the confirmation email.
You'll always receive your online gallery on the same day of the shoot.
Too many outfits is always better than not enough, so if in doubt, bring loads! If you're limited on bag space, 6 or 7 options is usually a good number. None of my headshot sessions have a limit on outfit changes. Bring as many as you'd like and we'll likely use a good amount of them within the timeframe of the shoot.
You always have 2 years of access to your online gallery, and can select your photos at any point in those 2 years, directly through the gallery.
It depends on which package you book. With the Pay-Per-Photo system, the photos are always £43, and with the Full Package or Unlimited Package, additional edits cost £15 each.
On a Full Package or Unlimited Package shoot I'll happily do full-length or portfolio shots! Here's some examples below:
Of course you can! I can shoot in pretty much any visual look in my studio, so whether it's Portraits, Portfolio Shots or Headshots, just send me an email via contact@photographybymattjones.co.uk with your mood-board, and we can go from there! I can also set a shared mood-board up for you if you'd like, just let me know!
Absolutely! I have enough chairs to go around, and they can even be in charge of the music if you like! Just make sure you choose someone who's presence will still allow you to focus on your shoot. There's also a selection of nice cafes on site, so if they don't want to stay in the studio the whole time, they can go to one of those!
